Thorpe Park Resort opened its gates this weekend for the traditional pre-season Passholder preview days. With many areas accessible for the first time in 2015, SouthParks takes a look at all the latest developments across the park.

A number of areas across the park have received refreshes and re-paints for the new season. The Amity water tower in Tidal Wave’s pool has been re-installed after being absent during February Half Term. It would appear that the tower has had some work done to it, however it is not yet clear if this means the water effects will be returning for the new season. Depth Charge’s submarine has received a fresh coat of paint returning it to a vibrant yellow colour, whilst Stealth’s entrance sign has been refreshed.

Work is progressing on the exterior of 2015’s new addition, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! with jungle theming being installed, and a British Mini placed by the entrance. Work was also taking place to install the outdoor queue-line for the new maze with posts and fencing being put in place. New I’m a Celebrity themed merchandise has been added to the Nemesis Inferno shop, including t-shirts, and kits to allow you to re-create parts of the infamous eating Bushtucker Trial. Calypso BBQ has also received a re-theme into Bush BBQ in preparation for the opening of the new maze, however currently there have not been any changes to the previous menu.

One of the key issues throughout the weekend was ride availability. The resort had advertised a limited ride line-up, however, some of the advertised rides were not available on the day, including Saw – The Ride, and Quantum, whilst some rides opened for part of the day before having to be closed again for technical reasons. The resort did manage to open some rides not previously advertised on the listing for the weekend, with Loggers Leap and Detonator opening fully, and X opening late on Saturday and all day Sunday. Both Rush and Quantum were having work carried out on them via a cherry picker, with Rush having what appeared to be some major works being carried out at the top of the ride after the park closed with workmen either sawing or grinding an unknown part – could this indicate Rush will not open at the start of the main season? Vortex also suffered extended periods of downtime, with what appeared to be problems with the restraints.
