Chessington World of Adventures Resort have submitted a planning application for a new High Ropes course, reception building and permanent car parking to be constructed at the Resort.

Proposed to be located by the South Car Park, next to the Sixty Acre Wood, the plans indicate that two High Ropes courses will be constructed – a “junior course” aimed at younger guests (under 10) and those not quite so confident which would take approximately one hour to complete, and a larger “adult course” for those of a higher ability level or who have a greater level of confidence which would take approximately three hours to complete. Both courses will begin from the same, central 16 metre tall start tower, and end in the same place with a 150 metre long zip wire finale, however each course will take its own unique path through the woodland. A range of obstacles will enable guests to move between a series of raised platforms as they make their way around their chosen course.

If successful, Go Ape Ltd will operate the attraction in conjunction with Chessington World of Adventures Resort and it is proposed that tickets for the facility would be available either in conjunction with theme park entrance, or purchased separately. Courses would operate during daylight hours, with the first slots available at 8am each day and the final admission for the adult course being at 6pm (to complete the course by 9pm), and the final admission for the junior course being at 7pm (to complete the course by 8pm), however the final admittance would become earlier as daylight hours become shorter. Each course would be able to accommodate a maximum of 30 people on each course at a time, with 15 people starting each one every 30 minutes. Initially, the attraction will be open between February and November, however if there is demand this may be extended.

Alongside the High Ropes courses a reception building is also proposed to be built underneath the final zip wire finale and adjacent to a permanent, dedicated, grassed, car parking area with up to 45 spaces. This building will house a check in area, toilets, café, storage and an education centre, which will be used solely by those guests visiting for the High Ropes Course. A series of paths through the woodland will be installed to help improve access to the general area. Due to the location of the attraction within the resort, a shuttle service is also proposed to transport guests from the hotel and main resort area to the High Ropes course.

This most recent application is the latest in a series of investments in the wider resort at Chessington World of Adventures and is part of a wider strategy to develop new and improved attractions in an attempt to drive more visitors to make multi-day visits to the Resort. If the application is successful, it is anticipated that the High Ropes course will open in February 2016, in advance of the already approved Explorers Glamping which is set to open in May 2016, and a mystery new ride within the main theme park. The proposal also follows the installation of the Enchanted Forest Tree Top Quest at Alton Towers Resort, which saw a High and Low Ropes course open in May this year.
