After twelve years of flipping guests upside down, Thorpe Park Resort have confirmed Slammer has left the Resort for good marking the end of an era for the S&S Sky Swat.

Responding to queries on their social media channels, Thorpe Park Resort confirmed that the one of its kind flat ride has come to the end of its time at the Theme Park, having previously stated that it wouldn’t re-open during 2017.

First opening in 2005 alongside Rush, Slammer was the first S&S Sky Swat to be installed outside of the USA and saw guests spun in 360 degrees in two directions at over 30mph. In recent seasons, Slammer has experienced a number of technical issues with the ride being closed for several extended periods leading to uncertainty about just how long the flat ride would remain at the Resort. Following the closure of Catapult at Six Flags New England, the only other S&S Sky Swat in the world, Slammer was the last of its kind and the closure of the flat ride marks the end of an era with no operating S&S Sky Swat models now in existence.

Slammer’s departure sees a second ride leave the Old Town area following the closure of Logger’s Leap at the end of the 2015 season. Whilst the Resort have yet to confirm the future of Logger’s Leap, speculation is growing over a possible redevelopment of the Old Town area of the Resort.
