Follow the construction of the Lost City at Thorpe Park from January 2002 to 2005. The construction of Colossus (i.e. Phase 2) is covered on its own page.

7th January 2001

Work started with the removal of the Enterprise for refurbishment and demolition of Dare Devil Drivers.

25th January 2001

Construction continued with the completion of Vortex’s foundations, Zodiac’s installation and the creation and theming of a new walkway down in to the area, providing good views of Zodiac when in operation.

18th March 2001

These photos show the area a few weeks before opening day.

6th April 2001 (Opening Day)

Vortex failed to open with the park, despite being advertised, causing a fair bit of controversy with some parties, especially Watchdog!

21st April 2001

Vortex has now arrived on site, although some of its theming features are yet to be added.

12th February 2003

Work begins on the site for Quantum.

25th February 2003

More early construction of the duo of Fabbri flat rides. Note how the majority of surrounding vegetation was kept to create two wonderful ‘jungle’ type queue lines.

30th March 2003

Continued construction of Quantum and Eclipse, with the former now fully on site along with the support structure for Eclipse.

6th April 2003

The wheel of Eclipse has now arrived, although little did we know it would only last two seasons at the park before moving to Chessington World of Adventures.

19th October 2003

October 2003 meant the deconstruction of the classic Calgary Stampede to make way for the mighty warrior from Chessington – Samurai.

12th March 2004

These two photos were taken just before opening day, and show Samurai now in place at Thorpe Park.
